today in Yogyakarta. My name is Merlin Anggraini, and the driver’s name

Now, we are going to the hotel Mercure. Before coming to
the hotel let me give you some general information about Yogyakarta which I
hope will help you to understand more about the city and its people.
And here, we are on Jl. Solo. Jalan means street and Solo is the
name of a Place eastern of Yogyakarta. Now, we go to the west ward. We have 30
minutes until to the hotel/ in 30 minutes we will reach/ get your hotel.
Yogyakarta is situated in the heart of java island/ in the
southeast of central java province, it is the capital of special province of
Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta as a small province consist of five regions. The west
part is Kulon Progo, the north part is Sleman, the east part is Gunung Kidul,
the south part is Bantul and Yogyakarta as Mayor. It is also the part of
Government and economic activities.
Yogyakarta was established on 7 october 1755.
The name of Yogyakarta
derive from 4 words: ayodya, hayu, bagya, karta. “ayodya” means place, “hayu”
means beautiful, “bagya” means happy, and “karta” means prosperous. So,
Yogyakarta is beautiful, happy and prosperous place.
The population of Yogyakarta is about 3.200.000 inhabitant in the
year 2009.
The city has
tropical climate with 2 seasons: dry season is between May to September and
rainy season is between October to April. There are many transport cilities for
traveling around the city, they include: Becak ( pedicap ), Andong ( horse
carriage ), taxi, rental car or motorcycle and city bus.
Yogyakarta
has many denomination like: Gudeg City because gudeg is specific food of Jogja,
made from jack fruit, coconut milk, palm sugar, local chicken and egg. And then
Yogyakarta as a Student City because there are 127 univercity and the famous is
UGM (the biggest univercity in Indonesia), as Andhong City, Tourism city,
Silver City in Kotagedhe etc.
